THE ROLEX GMT-MASTER 1675

Times passes and I find myself enjoying vintage watches more than for instance a few years back.

And if there’s a watch that changes throughout the years to a perfect vintage look is the Rolex GMT-MASTER ( Pepsi ) Ref.1675.

Depending on the materials of the watch ( case, hands, dial, bezel) you can regularly end up with a regularly look-changing watch, a tropical dial, a changed color on the bezel, patina and the list goes on…

And there’s no comparison to the beauty of a vintage watch, that only time has changed its characteristic and not humans by daily beating it.

The GMT-Master of todays days is in a totally different line in comparison with his older ref’s.

A little part of its huge history:

The GMT-Master, was created by request of Pan Am, that back in the days was used mainly by pilots. Its first model, released in 1954, was made with the objective of easing the pilots tough daily routine by showing them their home time at the same time they would be flying to other regions.

This firstly introduced model featured a 38mm case without crown-guards and it holded the caliber 1605. And has many vintage Rolex’s are now, this one is very rare nowadays and it can go up to 20.000€.

Ok, back to the 1675..

The 1675 was introduced in 1959, with a 40mm case diameter, slim crown-guards and an aluminium inlay and it holds the caliber 1570.

In my opinion this is one of those references that is destined to have a good aging if cared well.

The dial, very smoothly, will start to have a dark-grey textured look. The hour markers and hands will end up having a great orange toned patina while the GMT hand will surely maintain its strong red color, this way, making a perfect combination with the “pepsi” bezel, as long you don’t scratch that often.
