Only Watch: A beautiful sunset by Audemars Piguet

The biennial charity event know as ONLY WATCH has regained Audemars Piguet presence for this year event.

As explained on the previous articles I wrote about other singular timepieces that will be auctioned at the event, the Only Watch is a charity event with the objective of raising funds to the research of Duchenne muscular dystrophy, and all the funds raised will be given to the Association Monégasque contre les Myopathies.

Over the years there have been several astonishing unique timepieces that were created from A to Z featured at Only Watch, but at the same time, there are too several brands that exceptionally add a complication or feature to an already existing model just for this event.

Audemars Piguet, is defined by two words, creativity & tradition, these two words may seem a hard pair to combine but if you notice Audemars Piguet manages to innovate in an ever-modern way but at the same time maintains its identity and tradition in a smooth and discreet way.

These two words perfectly describe their model exclusively made for Only Watch.

Although it’s based on a previous model released in the SIHH 2017, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak crafted in black ceramic (that featured a newly added week indicator) it’s essential to say that this is a unique timepiece, and an unique timepiece as to have an unique feature.

If the black ceramic wasn’t enough to give this watch the attribution of “limited” due to its production complications and extended craftsmanship, Audemars added not only a new dial blue but also a crucial component now made in this same material. (Don’t worry, I will explain this in a moment)

So, it looks like after not participating for two years on the Only Watch event they did quite a big entry right!?

As you may remember, the previous black ceramic RO came with a matte black dial, with the traditional “grand tapisserie” and with the regular moon phase calendar with regular/usual colors. In this new unique piece, it’s shown to us one of the most marvelous colors ever seen on a “grand tapisserie” pattern, a marvelous “skylight” blue that perfectly combines with the brushed fishing of the black ceramic case and bezel.

That´s not all, the sub-dials are now featured in a light grey that end up making the perfect bridge thru the blue and black color. But in the moon-phase calendar is where the eye catcher is, a beautiful moon-phase calendar with a moon that resembles to the final light of the day, a beautiful sunset color that makes me think of paradisiac island.

In addition to these beautiful new features, this new RO has now a black ceramic case back that lets us admire the final newly introduced addition, a black hand-finished oscillating weight that makes the watch look much more balanced not only in terms of color but in terms of material composition.
