Today was an amazing day for our page and brand, we started the day by attending a Junghans event in Lisbon, strangely the weather cooperated very well with a foggy morning, that as most watch enthusiasts know, fog provides a great light for photographing watches.

So, great photos and wrist shots? Check!

Regarding the presentation, I had the pleasure to meet the Sales Director of Junghans, who explained to me how important is the social media channels to communicate with a younger public, and that, thanks to a classic design that is bounded with avant-garde design and clean lines, Junghans, manages to offer a line of product that can be appreciated by a large target audience in terms of ages.

Mrs. Christine Lauße, International Sales Director of Junghans, a great and kind person.

The general presentation was great too, not only because of the fact that explained how Junghans was created but also the credibility and humbleness that their product and message transmits.

One of the most incredible things I’ve learned was that Erhard Junghans actually had several synergies with other German brands like Maybach, where they shared ideas and helped when needed.

What can I take from their history? It’s pretty noticeable that Junghans always had a strong relationship with all intervenients, workers and partners.

A strong professional relationship that, at the same time joined people as a family that had the same objectives to fight for.

Did you know?

Junghans assembly factory is in fact a terrace, oriented towards the line that the sun runs over the day, so watchmakers could take the most of the sunlight to work purposes.

Isn’t that cool?

Their design

Junghans design was mainly based on their roots, history and ownership.

For example, several of the colors used on their dials came from classic cars owned by the brand owners, if you give a closer look to the general aesthetics of the Meister Driver you will notice that both colors, the sub dial and dial color, are colors used on car dashboards and speedometer.

When the presentation ended I immediately walked towards the watches, it was almost a mirage, two tables full of beautifully designed German watches, what a dream!

But what surprised me the most was lying quietly in the middle of more Junghans, almost waiting for someone to notice it.

Me and Miguel Seabra from Espiral do Tempo, on a double wristshot.

My favorite and the one I’m reviewing today

My personal favorite from Junghans collection is the Meister Calendar.

I didn’t knew that Junghans even had such model, but what a surprise!

The model I actually knew more about was the recently re-launched Meister Pilot, because we had one at our shop a few weeks ago.

In total there are 5 dial color options, each one with its own personality and message.

From a sporty/classic look to a formal looking version (the one I fell in love with).

Although the version with black dial and gold pvd case got me very interested the one I turned my attention to, was the version with white dial with rose gold pvd case, that ultimately provides a better reading of the moon-phase calendar and date windows and sub-dial.

I don’t quite know what’s happening to me, I’m on a continuous search for the combination of triple dates and moon-phase complications, not only for a buying purpose but also for a study one.

This Meister Calendar features extremely well conjugated aspects of design, going from the usage of thin lines as hour markers, to spear head hands that, in the end part, look like they are as thin as the hour marker lines.

It’s really easy to ruin a classic design with the objective of also using modern aesthetics on it. This definitely wasn't the case.

This model, featuring the rose gold pvd case with black dial, is the only one that comes with a Louisiana alligator strap.

Again, the perfect classic combination of features and characteristics.

It holds the Self-winding movement calibre J800.3 with 38 hour power reserve.

Last but not least, let’s talk about the intriguing dial shape and form.

A white convex dial.

The convex dial ends up playing a big role on this design, due to its domed shape/convex shape, it provides a surface capable of displaying a more intense game of shadows and highlights.

The first thing you notice is the moon-phase sub dial followed by the hands.

This happens not only because of the size of this characteristics but to the light and shadow game that the dial has.

This article is part of a group of 2 more following articles! But I will definitely keep you posted!

I want to personally thank Torres Distribuição and Torres Joalheiros for the invitation to such fun and well organized event! It means a lot!
